Crystal Dynamics have tailored Tomb Raider towards players with low spec PC's and those still running Windows XP. They've also partnered with AMD Graphics " to capture the realism of one of video gaming’s most iconic characters, Lara Croft of the Tomb Raider franchise,” said Matt Skynner, corporate vice president and general manager, AMD Graphics.  The game will support AMD HD3D and AMD Eyefinity technologies, the latter of which allows up to six simultaneous displays off a single graphics card.

Dead Space 3 Preview and Demo News

Tag: EA Games, Microsoft, PC Gaming, Preview, Sony

This latest entry in the Dead Space series takes a more directed focus on co-op, which at first thought sounds like a detraction from the series we've grown to love. However in actual fact it expands upon the narratives scope and gives you a much needed companion, to sustain the onslaught of Necromorphs on the planet Tau Volantis. While it's possible to play the campaign solo as Isaac, it's recommended to play with a friend to see the game from a different point of view.

John Carver is a new playable character with a traumatic past and brings in additional elements to the story and uncovers paths and clues, Isaac can't see. Co-op is seamlessly integrated into the single player experience, so friends can drop in and out without having to wait for each other to progress.

Weapon crafting is one of the main features of the game and allows you to create a unique weapon that can be shared with the rest of the world. This allows you to tweak your favourite weapon and possibly attach a flamethrower to it, to become the ultimate force in the games frozen planet.

Dishonored: How Will You Play?

Tag: Microsoft, PC Gaming, Preview, Sony

Dishonored allows players to play the game in multiple ways using various game mechanics. The stealthy approach to missions would be to use distractions and lean around corners, to avoid being seen. AI is very aware of your movement and will be alerted to footsteps, should you decide to run in their vicinity.

Corvo's arsenal of weapons includes a blade, pistol and crossbows, all of which can be used simultaneously. The same goes for his powers and when there chained together you can expect devastating effects.

Borderlands 2 Preview

The game that popularized shoot and loot is back, bigger and better than ever. Borderlands 2 has a bazillion procedurally built weapons, guaranteeing no one will have the same gun. They can be traded with friends in four player co-op or local/online split screen.

Pandora is the fictional setting of the game and has changed since the events of the first title. The environment stretches far beyond sand and dirt, with the likes of icy and toxic landscapes to explore. The barren wasteland is under the reign of Handsome Jack, who is driving Pandora in to the ground and eliminating Bandits.

Guild Wars 2 Review

I do not own any rights to the video above.

Guild Wars 2

Its finally here! After a 5 year wait the biggest, best, most popular F2P MMORPG has made a return. Guild Wars 2, after a lot of first looks, is ready to blow away all of the competition like RIFT and WoW (Which are both p2p after a certain point). The Graphics have changed, they’re more of an art style now whereas before GW went for the more realistic approach. I think that this is a better way to go with it though, it still looks beautiful and it makes it easier for everything to flow together. The combat is revolutionary with the skills. There just isn’t another game out there where the in-combat skills are this immersive and true to the description of the skill. It’s no longer imagining what the skill should look like, the development team have thought of it and made the animation and physics of the combat superb and unmatched. Playing Guild Wars 2 feels completely different to any of its rivals, but still relatable to the previous instalment of the series. The main story is different to each individual character; depending on the back story that you choose. This is similar to what Bioware done in the Mass Effect series, which I can say was a brilliant way of making your character different to others. I look forward to playing this game some more, the updated magic and combat skills are brilliant and it really is a very enjoyable experience, 5/5.

Prototype 2 Review

Sergeant James Heller is one angry super soldier, mourning his families death due to the Blacklight Virus (AKA Mercer Virus). The virus has spread across New York and it's been 2 years since the last event. With a blaze of fury against Alex Mercer, his beloveds passing will be avenged at any cost.

Right from the get go you can run up buildings and glide across the city like a flying squirrel. NYZ has been split into three zones, each one being progressively worse. The scale of each zone is reasonably large and mainly differentiated by environment effects or destroyed buildings.

Radical Entertainment has perfectly captured the feeling of being invincible. Heller is literally immortal compared to the inhabitants of NYZ, bullets and missiles barely scratch his jacket. Especially when you start upgrading his abilities, strength and health with experience points. Upgrades are frequent and measured by experience points, which are easily obtained after any skirmish.

This is a great way to reward players for their efforts and progressively get stronger. It's not long though, before your path of destruction becomes effortless and the challenge is minimal. Nonetheless your abilities are far too entertaining to get bored.

Sleeping Dogs Launch Trailer

Wei Shen may be a Police Officer but he's struggling to be civilised, whilst infiltrating the Triads.  As a member of the Sun On Yee, you will need to prove yourself via aggression and cold blooded attacks. Climbing up the ranks will lead to the inevitable showdown with the Sun On Yee dragon, the man you've been tasked to take down.

Use Wei's fighting skills, experience with firearms and fine tuned driving to take out the Triads, however you like. United Front Games have crafted an epic action game that sends cars derailing off the road after a shot to the tires and a brutal combat system, which allows you to use the environment to your advantage.

This is the first game I've seen that allows you to throw enemies in the boot of your car and slam their  heads with a car door. There's also some player customization with purchasable clothes, which affects how fellow Triads perceive you.

17th August is around the corner now and it won't be long before your playing Sleeping Dogs on either PS3, Xbox 360 or PC.

Sleeping Dogs: George St-Pierre

Tag: Microsoft, PC Gaming, Sony

George St-Pierre has had a major hand in crafting an authentic combat system in Sleeping Dogs. Using his expertise and passion for his field, George was able to give  animators useful feedback to correlate the impact moves  have in real life to the game. The developers felt his fighting style reflected what they had incorporated in game and was fitting to invite him to their studio.

Although it may not be possible in the shipped game, we are given a glimpse of what it would be like to fight a dozen or more enemies on screen.  Square Enix have also announced a George St-Pierre pre-order bonus, which includes his outfit (T-shirt, headband, shorts) and signature flying punch as a move in the game.

One of the great things about these behind the scenes videos is we get a chance to understand the mindset of the developers. It also gives us a glimpse at what development tools are used and Autodesk 3D's Max is evident in this trailer.

Take a trip to Hong Kong when Sleeping Dogs is out on 17th August 2012 for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.

Sleeping Dogs: Mrs Chu's Revenge

In this latest trailer were given an insight to the mission structure of the game. Wei uses his ties to the police and introduces a new way of tracking people. Using a tracking software on his phone, players must try to get in the centre of a triangular display. Once you reach the designated point, your given a list of possible location the receiving end may be situated. Selecting the one with the strongest signal strength leads you to their location.

High octane varied action is a key aspect of the game, switching between hand to hand combat, shootouts and car chases on the fly. To create an authentic combat system the developers looked towards UFC'S George St-Pierre, to motion capture martial arts manoeuvres.

The Driving mechanics have been given tender care as well, looking sharp in the trailer. Whilst aiming on a vehicle, time slows down giving you enough time to shoot the tires of the opposition. Causing chaos on screen like any good action movie, with explosions  everywhere in your rear-view mirror.

Sleeping Dog is released on 17th August 2012 for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.

Sleeping Dogs: Hard Boiled Gunplay

Tag: Microsoft, PC Gaming, Sony

Hong Kong cinema has some fantastic shootouts and is a true inspiration for Sleeping Dogs. Players can  create those moments themselves using Wei's skills. When hand to hand combat isn't enough, disarming an enemy will gain you the advantage. Every bullet is brutal than the last, piercing the flesh of the brave and dim.

To make scenarios more atmospheric the environment is destructible and explosive.  Slow motion kills are ever present in Hong Kong action films and can be initiated whenever you vault over cover. Think The Matrix meets Infernal Affairs; both films have inspired the game one way or another. Especially Infernal Affairs which is a Hong Kong crime-thriller, about an undercover cop who infiltrates the Triads. In a similar fashion Sleeping Dog's plot happens to be the same.

United Front Games have crafted a promising open world crime drama, exploring the nitty-gritty world of the Triads. Hit the streets of Hong Kong like never before when the game releases on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC come 17th August 2012.

The Secret World Review

The Secret World Gameplay
The Secret World

A new take on the MMO genre. Funcom have risked a new idea by mixing both magic and modern weaponry in, you guessed it, a magic and modern world. The first release of The Secret World is buggy, monthly updates have been promised, but at £11.49 per month, you hope the updates will be pretty big but at the same time not too long to download. It’s a rich game. It offers a good single player experience whilst everyone else gets on with their own game, much like Guild Wars or WoW.
I’d like to say this game was perfect, simply because of the premise, but the engine offers little assistance in the combat; giving you lag and slow, unrealistic animations.
Looking at the game, the quest system is interesting. The dialogue is good, with above average voice acting, apart from your character who unfortunately stays silent throughout. Some quests appear dragged out or as if there is an attempt to include too much content in a single quest, but these factors do not counter the entertainment which each one possesses.
It sticks to the traditional MMO protocol and requirements with the attempt of revolutionizing it with its own story and world. Has it worked? I’m not too sure, but it’s certainly worth the 1 month free trial.

The Amazing Spider-Man: Bruce Campbell Trailer

Tag: Microsoft, PC Gaming, Sony

Renown Hollywood actor; Bruce Campbell, best known for The Evil Dead films is in The Amazing Spider-Man video game. As the Extreme Reporter, Bruce's character will be dishing out challenges from his blimp. Which includes racing around the city to collect flares or getting to a location under a time limit.

Bruce made an appearance in all three Spider-Man films by Sam Raimi, either as a ring announcer, an usher and maître d. He also provided his voice for all the game tie-ins as well, so it's no surprise he's in the upcoming video game.

An open world Spider-Man game always goes down with the fans, especially when it has unlockable alternative costumes. Pre-order The Amazing Spider-Man for a chance to play as Stan Lee or Rhino. Swing your way to the nearest retailer when the game is released on 29th June, for Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony Playstation 3, Nintendo Wii, DS, 3DS and PC.
